Overview

Course objectives
This course will enable a systems programmer to plan, install and implement an OS/390 system into production.

By the end of this course you will have learned
How the OS/390 Operating System is structured and packaged for delivery; how the hardware and software is installed and how OS/390 may be customised through the use of system libraries, both at installation and at run time.

Who should attend
Trainee systems programmers and experienced systems programmers new to the installation and administration of an OS/390 system.

Pre-requisites
The WDR course 'OS/390 Systems Programming Orientation' or equivalent knowledge will be assumed.

Course synopsis
  • A discussion on the main components and facilities of an OS/390 system.
  • A description of the installation dialogs, including initial installation.
  • The definition of OS/390 and processor configuration information using the new HCD process (Hardware Configuration Definition).
  • The description and use of the more important members of 'SYS1.PARMLIB', including LOADxx and IEASYSxx.
  • Aspects of testing and implementing a new OS/390 system into a production environment.
