On completion of the course, the attendee should be able to correctly define BCS and VVDS datasets and be able to perform backup, restore, general management and diagnostic tasks.
By the end of this course you will have learned
The structure of an ICF Catalog and how it should be defined. How to apply tuning techniques and use CAS commands. How to manage ICF Catalogs and deal with BCS and VVDS synchronisation problems.
Who should attend
Technical Support, Operations Support or Storage Administrators with responsibility for ICF Catalogs.
Pre-requisites
Experience of using an OS/390 system.

- Concepts
- A look at the structure and function of both the BCS and VVDS datasets.
- Definition
- Estimating space for and defining a BCS and VVDS, creating aliases.
- Tuning
- Basic tuning using the Catalog Address Space (CAS). Using Catalog Data Space Cache. Related CAS commands.
- General Management
- Backup, restore, moving entries between catalogs, etc. Related CAS commands.
- Diagnosis
- Using IDCAMS to identify and recover from errors in the BCS and VVDS.
