At AS the family will be the main topic for discussion and A2 looks at Crime and Devience. The issue of gender, ethnicity, class and age discrimination will be studied throughout the course.

About this course
In order to qualify for this course students will need: *5 GCSEs at grade C or above (with at least a grade C in English Language). Students should also have a lively interest in contemporary social affairs and be prepared to read a lot, and watch news programmes about such matters.

Sociology - AS/A2
What will I study?
Sociology is the study of how human society works. The course will focus on issues of culture and socialisation and will identify trends in contemporary Britain. At AS the family will be the main topic for discussion and A2 looks at Crime and Devience. The issue of gender, ethnicity, class and age discrimination will be studied throughout the course. The course will help students develop analytical, evaluative and writing skills. Assessment is via two written examinations (one and a half hours each). Papers consist of structured essay questions and data response questions.
How can I progress?
Sociology is a qualification which is acceptable to all universities. It is a stepping stone to Higher Education and beyond.
