Accounting GCE A Level

Qualification: AS/A2 - 2 year course

Course type: Level 3 (advanced)

Entry requirements:
4 x GCSE B grades. No prior study of the subject needed. A higher grade in GCSE Maths is preferable.

Course assessment:
The course is made up of four units in total. Two units are studied at AS Level and two at A2 Level. All units are assessed through examination. Each unit has an equal weighting. There is no coursework.

The AS Accounting course gives an introduction to the concepts and principles which underlie Accounting theory and practice and exposes students to a range of Accounting situations. It provides a discrete package of accounting principles and techniques applicable to the business world.

  • Further aspects of Financial Accounting

What Makes a good Accounting student?
Students will have to be confident in working with and analysing numbers. They will also have to be precise in their approach to problem solving and must be able to present workings and findings neatly.

The study of Accounting gives students an insight into Accounting as a profession and provides useful skills that can be used in a variety of occupations.Students who study Accounting may progress by studying Accountancy at degree level at University. Accounting units are studied as part of Business Studies, Economics and related subjects at degree and HND level.

An increasing number of Accounting students have been successful in gaining places on prestigious degree courses run in conjunction with top Accountancy firms. Many past Accounting students have gained employment in the Accounting sector and have completed their chartered qualification. The department also hosts visiting speakers from local Accountancy practices.
