Description

I am delighted to welcome you to KGV's website. It has been another exceptional year for the College which has seen much change and development. The government's changing 14-19 agenda has seen the introduction of new routes into further education and we have been enthusiastically involved in the creation and running of new diplomas. As well as this, September 2009 saw the introduction of the International Baccalaureate Diploma into the KGV curriculum offering the very best international education for those students seeking a different experience. In these challenging economic times good education is more important than ever and here at KGV we are proud to offer the very best education in the North West. This year we scooped national awards in the Good Schools Guide in six subjects: Classical Civilisation, Leisure Studies, Geology, BTEC Systems Network Management and Financial Studies. These awards recognise the outstanding provision and results in each of those subjects and we were the only college in the north west to achieve this number of awards. We believe that education should cater to the needs of all students and we are proud to continually build upon our course provision ensuring it meets the demands of the market and the individual. We constantly strive to ensure that we offer the most diverse and extensive range of courses possible and it is our hope that your time at KGV will equip you not only with the skills you will need in higher education or the workplace but also that it will give you the confidence you need for a fulfilling and enriching life. Our students achieve wonderful results, some in difficult circumstances. We have an exceptional range of student support services which are designed to support you every step of the way. Personal tutors guide you through your academic journey, learning support assists with learning needs and any specific difficulties you may experience and our student services can help with everything from budgeting to accommodation. This year two of our students were awarded national prizes for their commitment to education and citizenship, despite adverse personal circumstances. Please remember that KGV is your local College and we pride ourselves on our close ties with local schools and active role in the Sefton and West Lancs communities. Our students regularly organise charity events for local and national causes and each Christmas we participate in the Rotary Club's Christmas Hampers for the Elderly campaign. The town of Southport has a lot to offer and our location offers easy access to public transport routes to Southport, Ormskirk and Liverpool as well as being a short walk away from the Kew shopping area which is very popular with students at lunchtimes!I hope you take the opportunity to come and visit us on one of our Open Evenings in October, November and January where you will have the chance to talk to our staff and students and see the College and amenities for yourself.I wish you the very best of luck in your forthcoming exams and look forward to welcoming you to one of our Open Evenings and as a new student next September.
