This course is designed for staff who carry out both supervised and unsupervised activities supporting teaching and learning working with children aged 5 years and over and following the National Curriculum. Applicants need to be employed in a school environment for 26 hours or more per week.

About this course
You should have strong communication skills and be able to work under your own initiative using creativity and flexibility to solve problems and support classroom activities. You will need to be employed for at least 26 hours a week in an appropriate position carrying out supervised and unsupervised activities to support teaching and learning in a school environment. You will also need to be able to demonstrate through initial assessment or prior achievement that you are ready, willing and able to study or have already achieved functional skills at Level 2 in English, Maths and ICT.

What will I study on the course?
You will build an understanding of how children learn and develop and the legislation framework, policies and procedures which must be followed in a school environment including the National Curriculum. You will contribute to the safeguarding, health and well-being of the pupils and develop your skills in framework and one-to-one and small group support. You will contribute to assessment of the pupils maintaining records and preparing resources.
