Who is the course for?
Any student wishing to study AS/A2 Sociology.
What is the course about?
The course covers a variety of units over 2 years including Socialisation, Culture and Identity and Social Differentiation. These themes will be applied to Theory and Research Methods, Religion and Crime and Deviance, Education and the Family.
Will I need anything else?
An interest in reading and independent study. Also an interest in people and how they interact with one another.
How long & often do I attend?
Students will attend 3 sessions per week (4.5 hrs)
How will I be assessed?
There will be two examinations, each of 1 hours duration and a sociological study of 1500 words.
What opportunities will this lead to?
Successful completion of AS and A2 Sociology provides, together with other AS and A2 qualifications, entry to higher education. Sociology is a recommended subject for entry to the police force and nursing courses. There is also a substantial element of sociology in teacher training, probation and management courses.
