The BSc (Hons) Cinematic Arts brings together filmmaking, drama, visual design, music and interaction design with the single purpose of finding new pathways for moving image, stories and user engagement. Cinematic Arts will embrace all screens from a mobile device or tablet right through to a modern 4K digital cinema screen and in so doing it will forge together high quality storytelling with the very latest in professional production standards and interactive applications. You will develop key skills in filmmaking and image production (2D, film, 3D, animation), cinematography, post-production, editing, narrative development, screenwriting, acting/directing, music/sound design, and entrepreneurship.

Course programme

Course Content

In the first year you will have an introduction to film art, contemporary media and the creation and manipulation of image based media using industry standard applications. By acquiring high-level technology and software skills you will be uniquely placed to present your ideas in innovative ways.

In second year you will take more advanced modules in areas such as screenwriting, cinematography, the history and theory of film, art direction and production design, 3D design, music and acting.
In the final year you will collaborate with other students to plan, produce and present a major piece of digital work. Examples of projects include film, documentary, video installation, interactive application, 3D design, sound design/film score or, ideally, a mixture of a number of these areas.
