Biomedical scientists are trained in the scientific disciplines that underpin human health and disease. They study how the body normally works, investigate how disease or injury interfere with normal function, and develop new strategies for the prevention, treatment and cure of these diseases. Skilled in using a variety of cutting-edge technologies, biomedical scientists have been responsible for major health advances including vaccines, antibiotics and other therapies.
Why choose this course?
The application of biomedical science is varied, with career pathways in a number of medical research, clinical science and scientific laboratory fields. The only undergraduate biomedical science course of its kind in Australia, QUT’s course allows you to create your own tailored learning experience by choosing one major and two minors that align with your career goals, and a flexible structure for two of the three year program. Your second minor may include complementary studies from a diverse range of university-wide minors including business, justice studies, science and engineering, and behavioural science. You will also have the opportunity to gain real-world experiences during your course by spending time in industry, clinical or research workplaces.
During this degree, you will be taught by specialists including researchers from the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation and Translational Research Institute. In recent years, QUT researchers have made groundbreaking discoveries in cancer biology, infectious diseases, tissue engineering and vaccine development.
During the three years you will complete extensive practical experience in our new laboratories and learn critical technical and analytical skills.
