The course has an excellent reputation with employers for providing strong graduates ready and able to face the challenges of their chosen career. The course is taught by experienced academic staff, many of whom have practised in various different sectors of the construction industry.
Develop a firm grasp of the technical aspects of building surveying.
Work on real buildings and real scenarios by completing a number of off-site activities.You will study all the key areas of building surveying including building pathology, material science, building conservation, building information modelling and fire safety.

About this course

You learn theoretical concepts and then apply them to real life scenarios.There is a UK residential field trip in the first semester of the first year. You also visit cities such as Edinburgh in the final year, and attend a project-based visit to a major European city (recent students went to Lisbon in Portugal) in the second year. Additional costs may apply.

This must include at least 64 points from two A levels, or equivalent BTEC National qualifications. For example:
•BBC at A Level.
•DMM in BTEC Extended Diploma
.•A combination of qualifications, which may include AS Levels, EPQ and general studies.

This gives you a real-world experience to prepare you for your future career. You could work at one of the major national or regional surveying practices, local authorities, housing associations or loss adjusters. Your placement year usually contributes towards a graduate's professional experience requirement for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Assessment of Professional Competence.Live projectsWe have good links with local professional and voluntary groups with large property portfolios. They provide various building stock for case studies and project work, which centre on actual buildings with real clients. We also own a Georgian terraced house which had been adapted to an interactive teaching space. You will inspect under utilised University building assets so that the amount of site based work is maximised.Field tripsThere is a UK residential field trip in the first semester of the first year that promotes the course identity. You will also visit other UK cities such as Edinburgh, and attend a project-based visit to a major European city (recent students went to Lisbon in Portugal). There is a residential field trip in the first semester of the first year that allows you to nurture and develop the course identity. Additional costs may apply. You may also be able to study abroad as part of the Erasmus Programme.
