BTEC First Diploma in Business
This course will give you an insight into the world of business. A BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

What does the course consist of?
The course is made up of six units. The three core units provide a general foundation, and three specialist units introduce learners to particular topics in more depth.
All students will take the three core units:

• Exploring Business Purposes
• Developing Customer Relations
• Investigating Financial Control

And three of the following specialist units:

• Business Communication
• Doing Business Online
• Exploring Business Enterprise or Starting a Small Business
• Personal Selling

The assignments are internally assessed and graded by the teachers. An overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all learners who successfully complete all units. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit or Distinction.

What else do I need to know?
A BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs at grade A*- C and is taken as a full-time course. It introduces learners to particular areas of employment and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification e.g. the OCR Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Business.
A BTEC First Diploma gives a good preparation for employment in areas such as retail, administration, customer service, finance, IT or personnel. It can also enable you to progress onto advanced courses at Taunton's such as a National Diploma in Business or IT, if you achieve at least a Merit and pass your English and Maths GCSE with at least a C grade.
