A BTEC National Award is a practical, work-related course. Students will learn on the course by completing projects and assignments and doing practical workshops that are based on realistic situations, activities and demands within the world of dance. Students will learn new concepts and techniques within dance and performance that will allow them to continue as dance practitioners.
Students will work together as a performance group for the two years of the course. The main focus of the course will be on the acquisition of technique and the performances that students do both within the college and outside in the local community. The assignments they will be set will aim to assess them not only as performers, but as an integral member of a performance team, by assessing process, rehearsal, development and research.
The course consists of six separate units running over the two years of the course. The subjects are varied so that students can develop their performance skills across a range of dance disciplines.
What are the course outcomes?
Development of contemporary dance techniques (and acquisition). Development of performance repertoire and skills.
How will you be assessed?
Continuous assessments throughout the two years - a combination of practical assignments, projects, evaluation and research.
A final major performance project, which assesses both rehearsal and performance.
