  • Case study Jacob Rowe

Jacob took an unconventional route to his first-class degree and ultimate career.

After leaving Arden School, Jacob played professional football for Birmingham City, took up a sports scholarship in America (Texas), then signed for Worcester City FC.Keen to continue his education, Jacob was accepted through clearing to study BA (Hons) Business Management at the University of Worcester. Jacob had no inclination of what a positive set of experiences were about to come his way.

"The University of Worcester was a great experience for me both educationally and socially," said Jacob."It has provided with me with lifelong friends and equipped me with skills that support my future career aspirations and for that I am sincerely grateful.

Asked about achieving a First Class Honours, Jacob said that,"Given the support of the lecturers and infrastructure available, I knew I had the resources available to help me achieve a first class degree and I am proud of the accomplishment."

During his time at the University, Jacob completed two internships at JP Morgan and Russell Investments and consequently received graduate offers from both. After much reflection, Jacob decided to return to JP Morgan in a fulltime contractual role as an Equities Trade Assistant, working on the trading floors at JP Morgan's London office.

  • Case study Sarah Meyers

Having obtained a 2:1 degree in Business Management, Sarah went on to build a successful career in policing and now works as a detective at one of the largest, top performing forces in the UK.

Sarah's degree at Worcester inspired a love of studying and she has managed to combine this with her work. Having recently completed a Masters in Criminology (with distinction), she is planning to do a PhD in the not too distant future.

"Studying at the University of Worcester gave me the skills and knowledge to build a career and to take on postgraduate study. Working full-time and studying has been challenging, and I am planning to take a short break from studying before I start again - next time for a PhD," said Sarah.

The skills that I acquired through my academic studies have helped me prepare for the demands of this particular career.
