What qualifications do I need?

You will need five GCSEs at Grade A* - C to include English and preferably Maths or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma achieved at Merit, or equivalent, and a successful interview.

What’s involved?

This course acts a s vocational alternative to studying three “A” Levels and offers a challenging combination of technical units which help you to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the competitive world of technical IT and Computing.
You will develop many industry relevant skills including:

  • Solving problems using commercially-relevant programming languages
  • Building and repairing damaged computer systems using safe working practices
  • Assembling and configuring computer networks to meet real-world security needs
  • Installing and upgrading operating systems to cope with new hardware, security updates or compatibility issues
  • Designing complex web-based content
How will I be studying?

A practical course where lectures are divided into theoretical aspects reinforced through enjoyable hands-on activities. You essentially learn by doing, something we feel is absolutely critical to your personal and professional development.  Sessions are delivered by qualified teachers who have many years of experience working in the IT and Media industry.
The College has a well-stocked range of hardware and software to be used and examined and your studies will involve you using industry-standard tools and software to prepare you for the workplace.

Assessment is through a combination of coursework assignments and some external assessment.

Where can I move on to after this course?

Successful candidates who complete their Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in IT have many opportunities for progression. 

  • To find employment on an IT helpdesk, in network support, as a commercial web design or as a junior software developer.

or

  • Dependent upon your grades, you could choose to apply to study a Higher National Diploma or an undergraduate Degree programme at university.

There will be ongoing tutorial support to help you to shape your future decsions as you progress through the course.
