If you don't have a great deal of holiday time, then this may be the course for you. The Day Skipper combined Practical/Theory Course is designed to teach you how to skipper and navigate a small yacht by day in familiar waters safely and confidently. The course takes place over 2 weekends and 5 days, the first weekend is spent in the classroom learning the essentials of navigation and seamanship before spending the next 5 days at sea putting into practice what is learnt in the classroom. There is particular emphasis on boat handling for Day Skippers and during the 5 days at sea you will practice mooring under various conditions of wind and tide. Students live aboard for the duration of the practical stage and visit many different harbours and anchorages to practice pilotage techniques. You will complete at least 4 hours of night sailing to experience night pilotage and identifying lights. The final weekend is again in the classroom and is used to consolidate the course before taking the theory exam on the final day.
Students who successfully complete the 9 day Day Skipper course are awarded the Day Skipper completion certificate for practical and theory and can charter from Moonfleet.
