Level 1 (IMI) Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
Overview
By working on range of petrol/diesel cars and light vans, you will be introduced to skills used by the motor industry. At this level you will be learning about wheels, tyres, brakes, steering and suspension known as chassis systems. You’ll also understand how batteries, starting and charging systems use electricity to generate energy and how they affect lighting and electric controls. In addition you’ll know how the clutch and transmission help a vehicle to move. You will have the opportunity to gain Functional Skills that will be essential if you wish to complete an Apprenticeship at a later date.
Entry Requirements
This course is suitable if you want to in the vehicle repair industry. It is also suitable for anyone with the aim of becoming a qualified mechanic / technician (subject to further qualifications). No formal qualifications are required, you will have an interview with the specialist tutor and an assessment of English and maths will be made at enrolment. You must also have a keen interest in the subject.
Course Duration
One Year, full time.

Course Assessment
Assessment of the knowledge associated with this qualification varies and includes verbal questioning, observed tasks, written course work and online tests.
Progression
Upon successful completion of the qualification you can progress to Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or a first year Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle, subject to meeting the entry requirements and / or related employment criteria for an Apprenticeship.
