KEY FEATURES
This 2 year course, running since 1995, is a collaborative venture between Central College and the University of Strathclyde. Successful learners are awarded the Diploma of Higher Education in Business by the University of Strathclyde. The subjects and course content have been specifically designed to allow diplomates to apply for articulation into the 3rd year of the BA Degree programme at Strathclyde Business School. Flexibility has been built into the course: certain candidates who leave after one year, or who at the end of 2 years do not meet the requirements of the Diploma award, may be eligible to be awarded a Certificate of Higher Education in Business by the University.

COURSE CONTENT

A selection of core units includes:

YEAR 1:
Business Law; Economics; Managing People; Principles of Marketing; Psychology; Information Technology; Statistics.

YEAR 2:
During this year, two of the principal subjects studied in year one are developed in more detail. The choices are Human Resource Management, Marketing and Business Law. In addition learners take Management Development 2 which is part of the university?s Management Development Programme. The two principal subjects chosen are then studied further in third year of the BA programme at the university.

NOTE: Applicants who attain 1 or 2 Higher Grade passes can usually be placed in HNDs in Business, Legal Services or Marketing.

PROGRESSION
The main focus of the course is to allow articulation to

3rd year of the BA Degree course in Business at Strathclyde Business School within the University of Strathclyde
. The Strathclyde degree is held in high regard by employers and many graduates go on to pursue careers in the fields of marketing, legal services, management and administration in a variety of industrial and commercial sectors, and in teaching, the public sector and research. Successful diplomates have also been able to use the Diploma to access courses in other universities.

Requirement
Three Higher Grade passes at grade C or above, including English (or alternatively, suitable subjects such as Modern Studies, History or Economics may be accepted) and two other passes at Standard Grade (or equivalent) at band 2 or above, one of which should preferably be Mathematics. Intermediate 2 passes will also be considered. NOTE: Applicants who attain 1 or 2 Higher Grade passes can usually be placed in HNDs in Business, Legal Services or Marketing.
