Introduction This qualification will be a significant component of the Young Driver Scheme, and the Modern Apprenticeship scheme as well as help address the shortages in competent drivers of goods vehicles. The proposed qualification has been developed to identify and specify the standard of professionalism required to drive goods vehicles.

Course Units NVQ Level 3 Driving Goods Vehicles

Course Content:
Candidates must complete all units in Mandatory Units, plus two units from Optional Units.

Mandatory Units:
· Monitoring the loading of the vehicles by others
· Uploading the vehicle
· Completing pre-driving preparations
· Maintaining the safety and the security of the load, self and property
· Maintaining awareness of driving conditions
· Operating the vehicle systems
· Driving the vehicle on public roads
· Driving the vehicle in restricted spaces

Optional Units:
· Obtaining information on the delivery and collection of loads
· Planning the route and timings for the delivery and collection of loads
· Loading the vehicle
· Coupling and uncoupling the vehicle

Assessment :
All assessment is work based. All assessed work is subject to internal verification procedures, whereby assessed evidence is sampled on an ongoing basis by appointed and qualified individuals in the centre. External verification takes place on a regular basis and assessor and internal verification decisions are sampled.
