You must be aged 19 or over. Although no formal qualifications or experience are required to join this course, you will need to have a basic knowledge of Maths and English. You can receive support from the College to help develop your literacy and numeracy skills.

Introduction:
This course is for those who wish to progress their career in the electrotechnical services industry. The qualification combines elecrotechnical knowledge with a range of units designed to complement any of the following careers:

  • electrical installation (buildings and structures)
  • electrical maintenance
  • installing instrumentation and associated equipment
  • highway electrical systems
  • electrotechnical panel building
  • electrical machine rewind and repair.


Study Mode & Location:
This one year Part-Time+ course will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
During the course you will look at:

  • analysing legal responsibilities
  • health and safety specialisms
  • sources of technical information


...alongside other areas of electrotechnology. There are two core units which focus on:

  • working effectively and safely in an electrotechnical environment
  • applications of electrotechnology.


Assessment:
You will be assessed by both assignments and set and marked written tests.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to the City & Guilds 2330 Part 2 course, or to employment in the electrotechnical engineering industry.

Additional Information:
You will be required to purchase the recommended protective clothing necessary for this programme of study.

How To Apply
You will need to complete a Further Education Application Form. These will be available from mid-May.
Many courses have limited places so please return your application form as soon as possible. Following acceptance of your application, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
