Course programme
On this two-year foundation degree course you’ll gain a sound working knowledge of engineering concepts, methods, equipment and techniques, making you highly employable in the industry.
Through lectures and seminars you’ll gain a thorough understanding of the engineering field and key engineering principles. Work-based learning, group sessions and practical lab sessions will then give you the opportunity to apply what you’ve learnt and develop your practical engineering skills.
The core modules cover everything you’ll need to work as a competent engineering technician, including computer modelling, engineering mathematics and statistical methods for quality assurance.
You’ll also be thoroughly prepared for the challenges of different engineering functions, such as materials, quality assurance, process, production and test. Plus you’ll learn about fields such as mechatronics, applied mechanics and applied software.
Throughout the course we’ll challenge and develop your creativity, problem-solving abilities and team-working skills using real-life engineering problems and scenarios. This will not only keep things interesting but also prepare you perfectly for the workplace.
On that subject, we’re in constant contact with employers to discuss course content and the skills they’re looking for. This forms the basis of what we'll teach you here.
By the time you graduate you’ll have a good all-round knowledge of the main engineering functions and practices, a great set of engineering skills under your belt and the confidence to work with professional engineering teams. If you want to, you can add a third year to your studies and ‘top up’ your qualification to a full honours degree.
