2. Course description This course enables you to build upon the range of skills and knowledge gained at NVQ Level 1 to develop your career within the engineering industry. Compulsory Units: -Working safely in an engineering environment -Developing yourself and working with other people on engineering activities -Using and communicating technical information Optional Units - three units from a choice: -Producing components using hand tools and fitting techniques -Preparing and using lathes for turning -Preparing and using milling machines -Producing sheet metal components -Preparing and using manual metal arc welding equipment -Preparing and using Tungsten inert gas welding equipment VRQ 2 Compulsory Units -Engineering environment awareness -Engineering techniques -Engineering principles Optional Units - three units from a choice: -Manual welding techniques -Producing components from sheet metal -Turning techniques -Milling techniques -Fitting and assembly techniques

Entry requirements -Performing Engineering Operations Level 1 or suitable equivalent -Three GCSEs at Grade D or above including English and maths or equivalent -Students need to be able to handle and use a range of hand and machine tools. -Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference. If English is not your first language, you may need an assessment before enrolling on this course. To discuss further, please contact the ESOL department on 0151 551 7144. 4. Equipment required Protective overalls and steel toe-capped footwear. Lever arch file pens, pencils and paper etc. 5. Assessment method Students are assessed through portfolio of work, both practical and theoretical.
