Course summary A flexible study course with some attendance at stables in various locaties throughout Highlands and beyond

Course description Do you enjoy working with horses? Would you like to find out more about their needs and how to manage them? Our flexible study courses will help.

The Equestrian Skills Flexible Study Programme is designed as a two-year programme of study, the subjects studied cover a range of topics, such as basic handling, stable routine, grooming and care. This programme is an ideal starting point for horse owners and/or those wishing to work in the equine sector. The programme is available at a special low rate.

Not only is your knowledge increased, you will receive an National Certificate from the Scottish Qualifications Authority. This looks really good on a stable wall!

For those with a good knowledge of the horse, or who have successfully completed the Equestrian Skills course programme, we offer further series of units in Equine Studies at Higher National Certificate and then Diploma level. These units are also currently available at a special low rate.

Who can join?
Access is designed to be as flexible as possible, allowing for students from a wide range of backgrounds.

How do I attend?
Each equestrian centre we use has its own attendance procedure, but for most you can come along to the centre for an evening class once a week, to cover the practical aspects of the course, while you study the theory in your own time. You may also have to attend an occasional week-end at our equestrian centre in Caithness.

Currently we use stables in the North Highlands - Caithness and Sutherland, Wester Ross, Easter Ross, Orkney, Inverness & Nairn, Skye Drumnadrochute & Western Isles, Aberdeen-shire, Moray, Argyll, Angus, Fife and East Lothian & Borders.

What will I study?
Listed below are some of the subjects covered in the course:

Basic care of horses at grass, Horse health, Watering and feeding stabled horses, Care of the horses foot, Horse clothing, Stable routine and Equitation 1 and 2.
