About this course

Four GCSE's grade C or above or equivalent, plus a BTEC Foundation or a National Diploma in an Art related subject or Advanced GNVQ Art & Design. We also encourage applications from mature students who have a range of experience and are seeking a career change. In all cases we would expect to view portfolio work.

Course Description
The course is centred on developing a creative identity through the practical exploration of a range of 2D (e.g. painting,printmaking, life drawing, photography) and 3D(e.g.sculpture,ceramics) materials and processes, supported by relevant theoretical and contextual studies and a series of educational visits and visitng lecturers.
Throughout the course students have the opportunity to use traditional and non-traditional materials and techniques including analogue and digital media.


How is the Qualification Achieved ?
You will be given regular projects as you progress throught the course. These projects will be assessed as you complete them so that you can monitor your progress. On completion of a final 'major'project (including a critical study), which will form the basis of your contribution to an exhibition, you will have completed the course.


On Successful Completion of this Course
Students may obtain professional employment in the wide variety of situations available in the broad area of Fine Art such as practising artists, community arts project co-ordinator, museum creator, fine art restoration, teaching and within the media industry. Some students may elect to continue their Higher Education by accessing BA (Hons) Degree courses, in the second or third year, at other institutions.
