You do not need to have a formal qualification in IT to take this course, but you should have some experience of using IT applications. You will have access to IT facilities at College for classroom activity and private study.

IT BTEC National Diploma
This course will appeal to students who want to develop knowledge and practical skills in the field of information communications technology, including web design and e-commerce, data communication and expert systems computing. You will have access to the latest in IT resources, and assignments and projects will be based on realistic workplace situations.

What will I study?
The first year is based around a common set of units:
  • Communications and Employability
  • Computer Systems
  • Information Systems
  • Spreadsheet Skills
  • Communications Technology
  • Computer Architecture
  • Software Development
  • Web Production
  • Computer Networks

In the second year, there will be a chance to specialise in either programming or networking, although you won't have to make any choices about this until the last term of the first year.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through practical projects, assignments and online tests for four units.

What can I do next?
This qualification is valued by employers and Higher Education. If you wish to continue study at Degree or HND Level there are courses in Computing, E-business, IT for Practitioners and Software Engineering to choose from. Students go into careers in many IT disciplines as technicians and technical support, progressing to professional status in their chosen field.
