Sociology - AS & A Level
This is the course to choose if you wish to gain a greater understanding of the nature of the society you live in, and have opportunities to study social issues that are of personal interest to you. You will also develop your evaluation skills as you reflect on this fascinating subject both orally and in writing.

What will I need to follow the course?

What will I study?
By studying the subject you will enhance your understanding of the society you live in. You will also get the chance to conduct a personal social study. You will study the following topics: The individual in society. The family. The media. Sociological research skills.
Will I have to sit any examinations?
There will be modular examinations in January and in June. You will also be assessed through your coursework throughout the year.
What will I have at the end of the course?
You will be awarded an AS certificate in Sociology. You can study the subject for another year and gain an A level certificate. In the second year, you will be able to study the following: Education. Social inequality and difference. You will also undertake some research work in the form of a personal study.
What next?
Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to higher education and gain a university degree in education, sociology, social policy or criminology. The course is particularly relevant to those seeking a career in education, social services, the police service, journalism, etc.
