Previous knowledge required: You will normally have at least one of the following: BTEC Foundation Certificate in a related subject; 4 GCSE's at grades D-G or other related level 1 or 2 qualifications
What will I study? Each First Certificate is the equivalent of 2 GCSE's at grades A-C and can be taken as either a full or part time course. You will study upto 4 First Certificates during the year, one from each option group. Each BTEC First Certificate consists of 3 units. OPTION GROUP A: Sport / Performing Arts / ICT. OPTION GROUP B: Travel and Tourism / Media / Sport Diploma. OPTION GROUP C: Public Services / Business / Hospitality. OPTION GROUP D - Public Service Diploma / Art and Design / Hospitality
What else will I do? Key Skills Communication, Application of Number and Working with Others. Emergency First Aid. Other related short courses.
How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through a range of projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
What will I achieve? On successful completion of the course you will achieve a BTEC First Certificate for each chosen subject as well as Key Skills and an Emergency First Aid certificate.
What can I do afterwards? You can return to college to study a Level 3 qualification (A Level Equivalent) Fusion will help you decide which subject to choose. You can also use the qualification(s) to help you find work in a related area.
Materials required: Students who choose sport will be expected to buy a Coleg Powys tracksuit, shorts and polo shirt. Students who choose catering will be expected to buy chefs whites, a restaurant uniform, a set of knifes and a text book.
