Course Content:
Students will engage for 12 hours a week to learn how ICT is used in industry to solve various problems. Units covered include:
Starting Work in the IT Industry
Working in the IT Industry
Developing Skills in IT
Social Responsibility at Work
Financial Management
Using the Internet
IT Applications
PC Systems
This course is also designed to promote social, as well as vocational awareness of ICT and how it can be related to both individual and organisational needs.
Teaching Learning Methods:
Students will be expected to participate in a range of classroom activities that promote:
Student led discussions and workshops
Practical Exercises
Working on specific case studies
Producing well documented portfolios
Working to agreed deadlines
Daily submission of coursework
Working individually as well as part of a team
Key Skills:
Key skills are developed and assessed in addition to the core teaching program.
Assessment:
This course is assessed by a combination of internally and externally set assignments. That said, it is entirely coursework based.
Skills & Commitment:
All students should be expected to be able to demonstrate the following skills and aptitude:
A keen willingness in ICT and how it plays a part in solving problems.
A willingness to work independently.
A willingness to use the VLE.
An ability to communicate well; both in terms of written assignments and class discussions.
A willingness to put in an additional 10 hours 'home' time in addition to their 13 hours 'college' time.
All students at BTEC Entry level should aim to achieve a Distinction/Merit. (A minimum of a Merit grade is needed to progress on to the Intermediate level).
Cost:
Students should be willing to purchase the writing paper, folder, pens and storage media, i.e. USB memory stick or floppy disks.
