About this course
5 GCSE grades A* - C are normally required, including English. Alternatively, a MERIT grade in BTEC First Diploma or GNVQ Intermediate in a relevant vocational area would also be suitable, normally supported by a GCSE grade C in English. You may also be required to take a diagnostic test to ensure you are suitable for the course.

The BTEC National Diploma for ICT Practicioners is a popular choice amongst students. We offer a range of exciting ICT units that combine to build a well balanced course. The department has a team of very experienced teaching staff with a wealth of industrial experience to help you succeed. The College has excellent IT facilities. Dedicated classrooms have been totally refurbished to a very high specification. The rooms all have digital projectors, interactive whiteboards and brand new state-of-the-art computers with flat screens. The network runs on WindowsServer and Windows XP.
Course Details
BTEC National Certificate & Diploma This is an in-depth technical study of how computers are used in industry and commerce and is aimed at students wanting a career in IT or related sectors. The National Diploma consists of eighteen modules. The courses has a high vocational content and consists of a set of core units, these include Communications and Employability Skills, Advanced Spreadsheet Development and Principles of Software Design and Development .There are four specialist units that cover Software Development, Network and Systems Support and Business. The optional units lead to vendor qualifications such as CISCO Network Academy. The units are assessed by portfolio work and cover topics such as Web Design and Management, Business and Data Management, Programming in a visual environment and Games and Animation techniques. Key skills are taught as an integral part of both courses. Students can use the machines in the IT Suite and Learning Resource Centre and have access to a specialised laboratory for practical activities such as web publishing and network management.
Where the course lead
You may progress into the computing industry or continue into higher education. You may specialise in any of the following at University: Web Design and Management, Network Fundamentals, Programming in a Visual Environment, Games and Animation or Business and Data Management.
