This course is designed for International and non-UK students from the European Union.

The Informatics degree programme has been designed to sit within the suite of top-up courses offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Computing.

The Faculty has a long and successful history of involvement in the education of both European and Overseas students. A suite of top-up programmes has been running very successfully for 30 years in what was originally named The School of Mathematics and Information Sciences.

The Informatics programme draws on the range of computing expertise and module choice available within the faculty. That also provided the flexibility of access to the computing portfolio

Previous articulations with specific colleges had allowed the candidates to enter the final year of normal 3-year computing courses with appropriate previous programmes of study.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

Since its introduction nearly five years ago, the programme has undergone a number of changes and modifications to reflect the state of art of the Informatics. In this latest modification the overall structure addresses the most recent development in today’s web-intenisive environment such as cloud computing, rapid application development and cyber security to provide excellent learning experience and relevance to the subject title. The programme also address the social and ethical aspects of the modern multi-cultural society. We believe that the programme will give the candidates the leading edge skills for 21st Century Informatics.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The Informatics consist of 3 mandatory/compulsory modules and a further 3 modules chosen from a list of 6 option modules shown below.

Mandatory modules

• Individual Project (300COM)
• Developing the Modern Web 2 (305CDE)
• Information Technology and Global Development (304KM)

Option Modules (any 3 from 6)

• Games and AI (304CR);
• Rapid Application Development (321COM);
• Ethical Hacking 2 (345CT);
• Software Quality and Process Management (340CT);
• Mobile Applications Development (387COM);
• Open-Source Development (389COM).

All modules are 10 ECTS/20 CATS credits each.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

Your course will be based on a series of lectures, with associated seminars and workshop practical classes. In addition, your personal tutor will review and discuss your progress with you and will be available for advice.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Your work will be assessed via coursework and examinations. The relative importance of these two components will vary between modules. There will be an appropriate split between coursework and examinations with some modules assessed by coursework only.
