Course programme

Course summary

Leisure management is a diverse and interesting field which involves managing facilities such as recreation centres, sports grounds, entertainment venues or parks, or managing a festival or celebration, concert or sporting competition.

The course has been designed in consultation with organisations involved in the industry and therefore ensures that the knowledge and experience gained is relevant for the future career of the student. Guest lecturers, site visits and the opportunity to get involved in real projects in organisations, help underpin the taught elements of this degree.

Course structure

The course is broken down into a number of subjects that combine to give business management and sector specific knowledge. The first year is designed to provide fundamental business management and leisure management knowledge. The second year develops this with additional delivery in research and specialised modules. The third year provides more specialised modules and the opportunity to participate in leisure management projects.

Assessment

Teaching and assessment focuses on developing innovative ways of supporting student learning, including positive academic tutorial support and the integration of graduate key skills in module delivery and assessment. Formal assessment is a combination of coursework, practical work, presentations and examinations.

After the course

As the leisure management sector is broad, so are the job opportunities upon graduation. Graduates find employment in areas such as conference, event or exhibition management in organisations ranging from local councils and private companies, public sector tourism and leisure departments, airlines, cruise and holiday companies, sports development and outdoor activity organisations.

Students also have the opportunity to continue their studies to postgraduate level at UCS.
