Mechanical Engineering BTEC National Certificate Level 3
About the course:
The BTEC qualification is the nationally recognised as an Engineering Tecnician qualification. It is an integral part of the Advanced Apprenticeship framework.
According to the Engineering Council UK, engineers on average enjoy better remuneration than their counterparts in accounting or the law; they are also well represented on the boards of companies. There are huge opportunities and many defined skills gaps within this diverse and rapidly developing sector, both in the UK and abroad.
This is a two-year course, which consists of ten common units and two specialist units selected from the appropriate pathway.
Success Story:
Edexcel's BTEC Level 3 National Award, Certificate and Diploma in Engineering are designed to provide a springboard to a university degree in an appropriate vocational discipline, or - for those working in the sector - to BTEC Higher National qualifications (HNCs and HNDs) or Foundation Degrees, or to employment.
Many of our successful students progress onto our HNC course.
Course Content:
Year one currently consists of five units: communication, health & safety, mathematics, mechanical principles and engineering materials. Year two consists of six units from: business, IVA project, further mechanical principles, plus engineering drawing and materials or electrical pneumatics, hydraulics and engineering design. There is also an option pathway for those interested in studying fabrication and welding
Equipment Requirements:
All equipment will be supplied by the college, however you will need to supply your own stationery and a scientific calculator.
Progression:
The course is equivalent to two A levels and forms a good basis for progression to higher education.
Additional Information:
If you are on a qualifying means tested benefit the tuition fees for some courses can be reduced, however you will still need to pay for exams and administration costs. You must claim tuition fee remission by providing evidence before enrolment.
Enrolment Instructions:
An interview will be required before enrolment onto this course by the Engineering Team.
