Taught by experienced practitioners and lecturers at our state of the art London campus, this course will develop your knowledge of newborn resuscitation and neuro behavioural and physiological assessment in line with the UK Resuscitation Council and UK Screening Committee guidelines.
Divided across two modules, this course will enhance your ability to provide holistic care, even in the context of emergency interventions for which the outcomes are often uncertain. About this course
Registered midwives, health visitors and neonatal nurses who have a minimum of six months midwifery/neonatal nursing experience, and they must be currently working in the clinical area and have at least six months experience in the care of the newborn. Candidates must have the ability to study at level 6 (for the Graduate Certificate) or level 7 (for the Postgraduate Certificate). A visit to the candidates working environment to assess their facilitation in practice may be required.

Resuscitation of the Newborn (MWY 3451 or MWY 4451)
Designed to enhance your ability to provide effective and holistic care to newborn babies and their mothers, this module explores such key areas as foetal respiratory, cardio vascular physiology and transition at birth; physiology of asphyxia; endotracheal intubation; and the professional, legal and ethical issues related to neonatal resuscitation.
Neuro Behavioural Physiological Assessment of the Newborn (MWY 3440 or MWY 4440)
Designed to enhance your ability to administer a thorough physical examination of a newborn baby, this module will equip you with the knowledge and skills to detect early abnormalities and potential problems so that you can fully prepare the baby, parents and related professionals for the required care.
