NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools

Who is this Vocational Qualification for?
Designed for teaching assistants, this NVQ will ensure that those who support teaching and learning in schools have the relevant skills and confidence to carry out their role effectively.
What is the training about?
As a work-based qualification, our training and assessing occurs at the Candidates school. Our NVQs are designed to improve the effectiveness of your organisation by recognising a candidate’s skills gaps and then tailoring a programme to fill any gaps with quality training.
It is a modular qualification made up of seven units: five mandatory and two optional (the most relevant optional units can be selected according to a candidate’s individual role).
Mandatory Units:
- Providing support for learning activities
- Supporting children’s development
- How to keep children safe
- Contributing to positive relationships
- Providing effective support for your colleagues
Optional Units:
- Supporting literacy and numeracy activities
- Supporting the use of ICT for teaching and learning
- Using ICT to support pupils’ learning
- Observing and reporting on pupil performance
- Supporting children’s play and learning
- Contributing to supporting bilingual/multilingual pupils
- Supporting a child with disabilities or special educational needs
- Contributing to moving and handling individuals
- Supporting individuals during therapy sessions
- Supporting children and young people’s play
- Providing displays
- Invigilating tests and examinations
