National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are qualifications that assess your ability to work to occupational standards. Once you have completed the NVQ you can be sure that employers will understand and value your qualification. You will study nine units, four core units and five optional units.

The four core units are:

· Create a variety of looks using a combination of cutting techniques
· Provide hairdressing consultation services
· Ensure your own actions reduce risks in health and safety
· Promote additional products or services to clients.

The five optional units are selected by the College and could include
the following:

· Develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills
· Colour hair using a variety of techniques
· Contributing to planning and implementing of promotional
activities
· Providing a colour corrective service.

You will be given the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications
alongside your main course. These will include qualifications in Functional Skills and can also include more specialist awards relevant to the subject you are studying.

How will I be assessed?
Assessments are carried out through practical skills tests, observations while you are working and completed assignments and projects. You will be able to test your practical skills and
knowledge in our commercial salons.

Progression
On successful completion you may:

Progress to a higher education course such as the Foundation Degree in Salon Management.

Or

Continue your exciting and rewarding career, for example as a Stylist, Colourist or Trainee Salon Manager in a hairdressing salon.

Achieving this qualification will give you the equivalent of 2 A Levels.
