Is the course for me?
This exciting course provides the underpinning knowledge and assessment of practical experience needed for employment within Childcare & Education. If you are new to childcare and education, employed as an assistant or undertaking voluntary work with children and want a qualification that will recognise your skills, the NVQ Level 2 course is ideal for you. If you are employed within the sector at a supervisory level and already hold a level 2 qualification and/or have 2 years experience, then we offer a level 3 qualification. At both levels 2 & 3, the course will be delivered through an e-portfolio (on line) therefore access to a computer is required and IT training is available to develop your skills.
What will I learn?
The course is delivered on a part time basis and the modules cover all aspects and elements of children's care, learning and development. Subjects you take include:- * Develop and promote positive relationships * Develop and maintain a healthy and safe environment for children * Promote children's development * Reflect on and develop practice * Protect and promote children's rights.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment methods include direct observation in the work place, where a qualified Assessor would come out to observe you in practice at your setting/ place of work, carrying out general duties, responsibilities and activities, these will be planned prior to any visits during one to one tutorials with your Assessor. Reflective practice, where you will need to write about your experiences during your setting. Assignments will also be set by your Assessor to cover some aspects of the course.
What can I do after the course?
You can progress onto higher level courses or obtain employment working with children 0-16 years in a range of child care settings.
Entry Requirement
You do not need any specific entry qualifications, but you must be working with children from 0-16 years for at least ten hours a week (voluntary placements are acceptable when completing a level 2 qualifiaction, however to undertake the level 3, you will be required to be working within the setting). You will be required to attend an interview and you will also be required to undertake initial assessment in English and mathematics, so that any additional support needed can be identified.
