Leadership & Management In Care Level 4 NVQ
This course is designed for people who are currently working in a managerial or supervisory capacity within a health and/or social care environment. It is most appropriate for those who have already achieved a minimum of a NVQ 3 in Health & Social Care. Workshops are held at the college on one day per month to assist applicants in meeting the knowledge requirements, some of which are theory based. Attendance at the monthly workshops is recommended.

Course Content:
The qualification comprises of eight units, four of which are mandatory units, with the remaining four being chosen from a wide choice of optional units. The mandatory units are as follows:
  • A1
  • : Manage and develop yourself and your workforce within care services. This unit is about the use of supervision, appraisals, induction and CPD.
  • B1
  • : Lead and Manage Provision of Care Services that Respects, Protects and promotes the Rights and Responsibilities of People. This unit is about POVA/Safeguarding, managing risks, human rights, PCP & care planning,
  • C1
  • : Develop and maintain systems, procedures and practice of care services to manage risks and comply with health and safety requirements. This unit includes Health and Safety at Work, managing environmental risks, managing risks and behaviours of service users, monitoring health.
  • E1
  • : Lead and manage effective communication that promotes positive outcomes for people within care services. This unit is about confidentiality, recording and reporting systems and developing a service that actively promotes the use of the service users preferred form of communication.

    Entry Requirements:
    To meet the standards and requirements of the course, students must already be in a suitable management/supervisory role within a care setting. Students would also be expected to hold an NVQ in Health and/or Social care, preferably at a minimum level 3.

    Entry Process:
    Interview and production of specific work products in order to evidence that they can meet the required competencies.

    Progression Routes:
    Following completion of the Leadership & Management in Care, students may progress onto the Foundation Degree in Care Management and will receive APL for units already covered in the Leadership and Management Course.

    Career Options:
    With further training students may progress into higher level care management or social work.
