On the course, you will also increase your self-confidence in your ability to learn and develop the academic skills such as essay writing and research skills as well as the skills and underpinning knowledge.

Course aims:
This course is aimed at those who are interested in travel and tourism. The course prepares you for entrance into Higher Education and provides an alternative route into Higher Education.
On the course, you will also increase your self-confidence in your ability to learn and develop the academic skills such as essay writing and research skills as well as the skills and underpinning knowledge of travel and tourism needed for Higher Education.
The Access to Higher Education courses have been running successfully at City College since 1991 and we have an excellent record.
Course content:
Some examples of the units you will study are:
Introduction to Travel and Tourism Industry
Marketing and Promotion for Travel and Tourism
People Management within Travel and Tourism
Facilities for students:
Teaching will take place in our main campus where classrooms will be fully equipped with up to date technology. Students have access to the libraries at the local universities of Brighton and Sussex in addition to our own Learning Resource Centre.
There is an active student union, careers and counselling service at the college.
Tutors:
The tutors are well qualified, experienced and enthusiastic and understand the needs of Access learners and provide appropriate support and guidance.
Assessment: Assessment will be continuous throughout the course and will involve a variety of methods such as essays, presentations, projects and examinations.

Pre-entry preparation:
There is no required set reading though you may find it useful to read about travel and tourism issues in the press and media.
It will also be useful to research courses and universities prior to starting the course to help with your university application which takes place in the first term.

Successful completion of the course enables students to progress onto Higher Education courses in Travel and Tourism and other related degree programmes.
The course is suitable for those who are interested in a career within the Travel and Tourism industry.
Work experience opportunities:
There is no formal work experience but you will be encouraged where possible to draw on any previous work experience or employment as part of class discussion.

How much will the Tuition Fees cost?
Below are the fees for 09/10.
Home/EU students tuition fees (per year) : 600
If you are under 19 on 31st August 2009 you do not have to pay Tuition Fees, the College Registration, Awarding Body Registration or Exam/Assessment Fees. However, you will have to pay any Resource Fees. Under 19s entering Higher Education will have to pay full costs.
