Supporting Healthier Outcomes

Pressure care management is a fundamental element when delivering excellent care. This course will explore the impact that activities of daily living have on pressure ulcers, deterioration and healing techniques working towards a holistic approach towards pressure care.
Assess – Assessing the benefits, limitations of traditional assessment tools compared to modern methods and examining evidence based best practice to create person centred pathways

Achieve – Examine the factors that  affect individuals outcomes utilising nationally recognised Holistic initiatives to explore the role that nutrition, continence, moving and handling and equipment play in achieving compliance

Advance – Effectively  applying  Holistic person centred strategies to create a preventative, proactive systems to maintain healthier outcomes

About this course

Identify what pressure sores are and what causes them

· Recall the structure of the skin and how this relates to pressure sores

· Describe the stages, types and treatment of pressure sores

· Identify the risk factors and necessary control measures

· Identify the “myths” in relation to the effective management of pressure care

· Examine a range of products and equipment to assist in treating pressure sores.

· Explore the question is compliance always achievable?

· Apply evidence based best practice to create person centred prevention strategies

· Demonstrate person centred  approaches to assess each individuals’ needs

· Design and formulate holistic action plans to promote ‘healthier outcomes’

· Utilise best practice to develop person centred management strategies

Pressure Care is everyone’s responsibility, therefore this course is aimed at all social care staff with a hands on role.

This is a unique course that looks at traditional interventions versus evidence based practices.
It takes you on a journey looking at Pressure Care management from an holistic person centred prospective.
It evaluates a range of assessment tools.
delegates will have the opportunity to look at equipment specifically designed to aid prevention

Explain the anatomy, physiology and functions of the skin
Identify the intrinsic and extrinsic causes of pressure ulcers, differentiating between pressure, shear and friction and explain the nature of pressure ulcers in relation to stages of development and the common sites where they occur
Differentiate between the stages of wound healing and the factors that can lead to delay
Identify the risk factors linked to the development of pressure ulcers, those at greatest risk of developing them and the importance of individual assessment
Explain the importance of preventing pressure ulcers, including pressure relief, adequate nutrition and hydration
Discuss the care needed for those at risk of developing a pressure ulcer
Discuss the care needed for those with a pressure ulcer
Develop Preventative strategies to meet the person centred requirements.
