Foundation Year entry:
* Undergraduate degree - minimum Lower Second Class Honours (2:2) of a UK University or of the CNAA, or an equivalent overseas qualification.
* Mathematics GCSE - C Grade or above.

Rationale
This programme is developed so that students who already hold an equivalent level qualification (ELQ; corresponding to a BA or BSc undergraduate degree) can pursue the appropriate degree to achieve Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC, formerly known as GBR or Graduate Basis for Registration) of the British Psychological Society (BPS) whilst studying for an MSc in Psychology.
Objectives
The programme provides a comprehensive coverage of contemporary psychological theory and research which distinctively provides students with Graduate Basis for Registration (GBC) to the British Psychological Society (BPS). The programme provides opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, qualities, skills and other attributes in the following areas:
- Key principles of psychological theory, including perception, attention and performance, developmental psychology, memory and cognition, social psychology, psychobiology, individual differences.
- Develop practical skills in: research methodology including the formulation of hypotheses, designing and reporting experiments using a range of research methodologies, and subject-specific IT skills.
- Design and execute an independent research project, under supervision.
- Transferable skills in critical thinking; learning how to evaluate hypotheses, presentation writing and delivery, report writing, essay writing.
