Child Protection Practices: Professional Dangerousness
CHILD PROTECTION PRACTICES – PROFESSIONAL DANGEROUSNESS (TWO DAY COURSE)
How confident do you feel about recognising the signs that indicate a child is being abused or is potentially at risk of harm? Due to the significant number of child deaths in Britain today all childcare professionals need to ensure they have the knowledge and skills necessary to safeguard children.  In all child death enquiries there are common themes that with hindsight are obvious mistakes or oversights that affected the decisions professionals made. No childcare professional would consciously leave a child at risk of harm, but yet statistics tell us that between 1 and 2 children are dying every two weeks at the hands of a parent or carer in the UK.

ABOUT THE COURSE
This course is suitable for all childcare professionals at every professional level. It addresses the key issues that have emerged from fatal case enquiry reports. It aims to develop more confidence in professional assessments and observations, with a view to taking practices to a higher level. Many professionals fail to act on their observations due to a fear that they may be wrong. In all fatal case enquiries all childcare professionals involved are vulnerable, unless their practices are of a high standard and they have taken the necessary steps within their role to safeguard the child. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Professional dangerousness can occur within the practices of individual workers, within teams of professionals, within entire departments or between agencies. Often professional dangerousness occurs as a direct response to the actions of families where there are childcare concerns, as a result of our own discomfort within our role, or when workers who are responsible for child protection leave the child at risk of significant harm as a result of their assumptions, attitudes or behaviours. This two day course is offered to all childcare professionals (both practitioners and managers) within social services, health, youth offending teams, education, police, private and voluntary sectors who work with children and families.

COURSE AIMS & OBJECTIVES

  • To raise awareness of the outcomes and lessons learnt from major child protection enquiries.

  • To provide structured time for reflection, exploration and planning around safeguarding practices.

  • To create a safe learning environment to enable participants to explore and become more in touch with aspects of their own practice and the practices of other professionals.

  • To recognise dangerousness when it occurs in a range of settings and work on strategies to challenge dangerous practices.

  • To identify how dangerous families affect us in our day to day practices.

  • To achieve awareness through a range of presentations, case studies, role plays, and small & large group discussions.

  • To create a special combination of warmth, humanity and learning.

On completion of the course delegates are provided with course materials and are awarded a certificate. The training will commence at 9:30am and finish at 3:30pm on both days. This course runs with a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 25 delegates.

    COURSE COSTS
Future Childcare Training hold two types of Child Protection Practices course:

    TEAM & GROUP COURSES
Team & Group Courses are commissioned by organisations who have between 12 and 25 delegates needing to be trained in our 'Future for Families' parenting programme. For this type of course, one of our trainers will travel to your local area to deliver the course at a venue organised by yourself. Our Child Protection Practices Team & Group Course is priced at £130 per person + VAT.  The only additional expenses are our trainer's travel expenses and accommodation for our trainer (if necessary).  If you are an individual or you have a small team of people wanting to be trained, you may wish to contact other teams or local authorities in your area to see if you can join together to form a larger group (between 12 and 25 delegates).  If you would like to book a team and group course please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss suitable dates.

REGIONAL COURSES (for individuals and small teams)
If you do not have between 12 and 25 delegates that need training but would still like to attend our Child Protection Practices course, we also offer "Regional Courses".  Regional courses are where Future Childcare Training hire a venue and provide catering for the delegates; we then sell places on the course to individuals or small teams wanting to attend.  The courses we offer on this basis are:

    On FUTURE CHILDCARE TRAINING LTD

    Provider description
Future Childcare Training Ltd provide training courses for childcare professionals throughout the UK. We are a specialist team providing a wide range of courses which not only enable professionals to meet the needs of children and their families, but also help organisations develop new government initiatives.

Our trainers have recent and current experiences in the childcare field, and have been actively involved in the delivery and formulation of training programmes for over 15 years, having worked as trainers for Local Authorities, NSPCC, NCH, and independently.

Their experiences cover the spectrum of 0-21 years of age, residential, day care, group-work, specialist services including child development and special needs, direct work with children and families, childcare placements, child protection, registration and inspection, and many years managing a range of services.

We offer courses which are practice based which should change professional ways of working immediately. We service the whole of the UK so will travel to your own locality to present multi-disciplinary or team based training. We also provide regional courses which are based in Glasgow (Scotland) and the Midlands (England) which enable smaller numbers from teams to take up the opportunity to complete a course. Where requested we can provide tailor-made courses eg. Team Building.

Not only do we deliver national training courses, we offer consultation services and are often invited to speak at seminars and conferences on childcare issues. We are also invited to attend events which inform government policy and strategies.

Future Childcare Training Limited is committed to delivering high quality training. All training materials and presentations will be practice based and user led with a focus on putting children first. We have discovered that the most effective way for adults to learn is by interacting and having fun.
