Course programme

This introductory course (PC or Mac) will teach you to use the tools in Rhino to develop fashion concepts into 3D models and technical drawings that can be used for mock-ups, pattern cutting, colourway variations, range planning and prototyping technologies like 3D printing. Rhinoceros 3D is a robust, versatile and intuitive 2D and 3D CAD software that enables you to turn your fashion ideas into virtual prototypes ready for sampling. Rhino provides the tools and methods for taking advantage of new manufacturing technologies that enable the fashion design process to be more efficient, sustainable and cutting-edge.

This intensive and comprehensive course is designed to provide you with a solid foundation to extend and improve your current design methods, whilst giving you the confidence to explore a world of unprecedented design possibilities.

The course includes:

  • Navigating Rhino's interface
  • How to organise your "world" inside Rhino
  • Basic methods for creating and editing objects in Rhino
  • Designing on a mannequin
  • Applying 2D & 3D patterns to garments
  • Methods for designing fashion, accessories and footwear
  • Creating 2D technical drawings (flats) from 3D models
  • Using Rhino with other CAD software
