About this course
This is an in service award for practising NVQ assessors. Candidates must be currently assessing NVQ candidates and have up to date qualifications and/or experience in the subject they are assessing. You will already be in a position where you are; assessing candidates against NVQ standards of competence using a range of assessment methods, giving candidates feedback on your assessment decisions, and contributing to your organisation's internal quality assurance process.

Course summary:
The induction session will cover the knowledge and understanding an assessor requires to be competent in the role. Advice and guidance will be provided to enable you to produce a portfolio to evidence your current work-based activities as a NVQ assessor.
Course content:
One day group teaching session, and the remainder of the programme will be spent with the tutor on a one to one basis to facilitate production of your A1 portfolio of evidence. In addition, there will be an assessor observation of your current NVQ assessment practice in the work place.
Assessment procedure:
Assessment is by observation of your current and ongoing assessment practice, portfolio building, professional discussion, and questioning to check your knowledge and understanding of the NVQ assessment process.

A1 Assessor Award (Assess candidates using a range of methods).
Progression opportunities:
Following 18 months practice as an NVQ assessor, you could progress to the V1 NVQ Internal Verifier Award.

Many part-time students at South Tyneside College do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, depending on the course and the number of hours a week you study, you may be eligible for an Adult Learners†Grant.
