There are three modules which build on the work done at AS Level. Module 4: Investigating Modern Media Texts. Students produce an independent study which allows them to demonstrate research skills, knowledge of key concepts and organisation and presentation skills. Studies in the past have included women and action films, the representation of masculinity in fight club and video '-nasties'.

A2 Level in Media Studies
Course content:
There are three modules which build on the work done at AS Level.
Module 4: Investigating Modern Media Texts.
Students produce an independent study which allows them to demonstrate research skills, knowledge of key concepts and organisation and presentation skills. Studies in the past have included women and action films, the representation of masculinity in fight club and video â€-nasties†and the portrayal of violence in the media.
Module 5: Changing Media Industries. Candidates will make a detailed study of the following topics: Television, Radio, film and Cinema, the Music Industry, Newspapers and Magazines, Advertising.
Module 6:
Candidates will make a detailed study of one media genre (eg: science fiction, music video, documentary)
Media Studies has a close affinity with art and combines well with all other arts and humanities subjects.
Assessment procedure:
Module 4: (20% of A Level marks)
Candidates produce a coursework essay of between 2,000 and 3,000 words.
Module 5: (15% of A level marks)
One and a half examination paper. Two questions to be answered.
Module 6: (15% of A level marks)
Two and a half hour examination paper. Candidates analyse 'unseen' media texts, both print-based and video.
