UNIT 1: INTRODUCTION TO FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING- The role of the accountant in business
- Types of business organisation
- The double entry model
- Verification of accounting records
- Accounting concepts used in the preparation of accounting records
- Preparation of financial statement for sole traders
- Accounting for organisations with incomplete records
- Partnership accounts
- The implications of ethical considerations
- Budgeting
- Marginal costing
- Standard costing and variance analysis
- Absorption and activity-based costing
- Limited company accounts
- Accounting for limited companies
- Analysis and evaluation of financial information
- Capital investment appraisal
- Interpretation, analysis and communication of accounting information
There will be 2 paper-based exams, which will cover all of the units studied. A more detailed breakdown of the exam details is provided below:
Paper 1
- Type: Written examination
- Duration: 3 hours
- Assessed: Sections 1-8, and 14-18 of the subject content
Assessment format: 3 compulsory sections.
- Section A has 10 multiple choice questions and several short answer questions. The section is worth 40 marks
- Section B has two structured questions each worth 20 marks. The section is worth 40 marks
- Section C has two extended answer questions worth 25 marks. The section is worth 50 marks.
Paper 2
Type: Written examination
Duration: 3 hours
- Assessed: Sections 1-3, 8-13, and 17-18 of the subject content
- Section A has 10 multiple choice questions and several short answer questions. The section is worth 30 marks
- Section B has two structured questions each worth 20 marks. The section is worth 40 marks
- Section C has two extended answer questions worth 25 marks. The section is worth 50 marks
