This is a laboratory based subject where frequent experiments reinforce theoretical concepts and help solve chemical problems. The syllabus is divided between Physical chemistry - the nature, trends and properties of substances; Inorganic chemistry - the chemistry of all elements except carbon and its compounds and Organic chemistry - the chemistry and synthesis of carbon compounds. We recommend AS Maths to support the calculations in Chemistry.

The Sixth Form College is well-provided with dedicated teaching rooms; most of which are equipped with I.T facilities, digital projectors, video and audio connections. Where appropriate, a specialist facility such as laboratory or editing suite is available. The College has a well-developed VLE for student use. Open access IT facilities and a comprehensive Learning Resources Centre are provided
You will not be in College every day from 9am to 5pm, students on an AS/ A level course will have free time and you do not need to be on the premises unless you have a timetabled session or tutorial.
The lessons are 1 hour 30 minutes which is the standard session allocation. You will have a subject tutor who will be responsible for reviewing your general progress and helping you with your problems. You will see them on a regular basis. This subject would normally be studied with two or three other AS/A levels as a full time course.
