Applied Science BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma

A minimum of 5 GCSEs A*-C, including maths and English, and grade B in Single Science or C/C in Double Award Science. Course Content In addition to Functional Skills (English, maths and ICT), 6 core units will be studied over the two years: • The fundamentals of science • Working in the science industry • Scientific practical techniques • Scientific investigation • Perceptions of science • Application of numbers. Twelve additional units are studied for the full Extended Diploma – these may include: • Using science in the workplace • Physiology of human body systems • Microbiological techniques • Medical physics • Astronomy • Chemical laboratory techniques. How will I be assessed? All assessments are coursework or assignments based. There are no exams required for the completion of this qualification. Progression Progress to various scientific degree or Higher National Diploma courses at university. Fees • If you are aged 16-18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases. Bursary funds There are financial support arrangements for 16-18 year olds and hardship funds available for the over 19s.
