Applied Science BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma LocationCranford Avenue Course Overview Apply Now This nationally recognised qualification provides studies in three scientific skills: Physics, Biology and Chemistry. It is the equivalent to three A Levels and is taken as an entry qualification to university. You will learn about a range of organisations and how they use science in different ways on an operational basis. A particular emphasis is placed on practical investigations to broaden scientific knowledge.

Course programme

A minimum of 5 GCSEs A*-C, including maths and English, and grade B in Single Science or C/C in Double Award Science. Course Content In addition to Functional Skills (English, maths and ICT), 6 core units will be studied over the two years: • The fundamentals of science • Working in the science industry • Scientific practical techniques • Scientific investigation • Perceptions of science • Application of numbers. Twelve additional units are studied for the full Extended Diploma – these may include: • Using science in the workplace • Physiology of human body systems • Microbiological techniques • Medical physics • Astronomy • Chemical laboratory techniques. How will I be assessed? All assessments are coursework or assignments based. There are no exams required for the completion of this qualification. Progression Progress to various scientific degree or Higher National Diploma courses at university. Fees • If you are aged 16-18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases.
