Course Content: In your first year (AS Level) you will study 2 modern novels and a collection of short stories for coursework and two collections of poetry and a play for the exam.

In the second year (A2 Level), you will study a novel, a collection of poems and several dramatic monologues for your coursework, and two plays (one of which will be by Shakespeare) and a collection of poetry for the examination.

Course Format: Class essays will be set regularly and will be returned with feedback, telling you how and where you can improve. You will sit your AS exam in May. You will be expected to read the texts yourself which will then be discussed in class. Support materials will be provided but you will also be expected to take your own notes. Regular written work will help you to familiarise yourself with the texts.

Progression: Progression to A2 depends on your performance at AS, in which you will need to achieve a minimum grade D.
