About this course

Draw on their experiences at GCSE as well as offering a secure foundation for the study of English beyond A-level

Designed for people who work with children and young people in teaching, learning support or child care and who wish to understand the provision of additional support for people with special needs.

Students looking to enrol onto this course should meet the following criteria:
Be aged 16 Years or above
Possess a solid knowledge of the english language - Recommended GCSE Grade C Minimum
Have access to a PC and the internet for the duration of the whole course
Basic computer skills: e.g Word processing, emailing, uploading documents etc
Have a genuine desire to succeed

COMPONENT 3: POETRY

Assessment

The Edexcel A-Level exam is available in May/June each year. It is assessed over 3 exam papers & coursework. The coursework component must be assessed as part of your examination. UK Open College, can not assess this for you.

Paper 1: Drama – 9ET0/01

  • Type: Written examination
  • Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes
  • Assessed: Component 1
  • Assessment format: Two essay questions

Paper 2: Prose – 9ET0/02

  • Type: Written examination
  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Assessed: Component 2
  • Assessment format: One comparative essay question

Paper 3: Poetry – 9ET0/03

  • Type: Written examination
  • Duration: 2 hours 15 minutes
  • Assessed: Component 3
  • Assessment format: Two questions

Coursework component – You will need to write a comparative essay that refers to two texts. In this essay, you will need to link the texts and make comparisons between them. You will also need to consider contexts and alternative interpretations. The coursework essay is assessed on all five assessment objectives. The word count is 2500-3000 words. It is worth 60 marks and this is 20% of the total A-Level
