HISTORY OF ART
Why should I come to Pendleton College?
This subject compliments a range of other A-Levels including English Literature, Media Studies, Film Studies, History, Social Sciences and, of course, Art and Design.
What will I study?
Unlike other Art and Design courses, this course focuses on the critical understanding and awareness of art and design rather than practical execution. You will study the following:
- Visual Analysis and Criticism
- Art
- Architecture, Craft and Design
What will I achieve?
This subject, alongside other A-Levels or a vocational course, will enable you to enter university or gain employment in many areas. You will also develop a wide range of analytical skills such as learning to build solid arguments and to express ideas both in verbal and written forms. These skills can be applied to further study within Art or History or a range of other degrees. These are the skills increasingly required by potential employers in a range of professions.
How is the course assessed?
In year one (AS Level) two units are studied and assessed. A further two units are studied in the second year (A2 Level). At AS Level you will be presented with a broad introduction to the topic. At A2 Level you will conduct more advanced criticism and analysis.
What else will I do?
You will get the opportunity to visit a range of galleries and museums giving you unique access to the past through art, design, architecture and photography. This course will help broaden your cultural, social and historical knowledge.
