This course covers a wide range of subject areas and is a very popular choice.
What will I study?
In year one you will study:
Women in Athens and Rome - this module will study women in Athens in the fifth and fourth centuries BC and in Rome in the first century BC and the first and early second centuries AD (and the values and attitudes implicit in the position and treatment of women in each society).
The Iliad - this module will be based on reading Greek tragedies in translation. It will involve the study of plot, characterisation and themes.
In year two you will study:
Comic drama in the ancient world - this module will be based on reading ancient comedy in translation. It will involve the study of plot, humour and characterisation.
The epic and age of Augustus - this module will study Roman epic in translation and learn about the importance of the epic to the Emperor Augustus' regime.
How is the course assessed?
AS-Level: Two 1.5 hour exams and coursework assignment.
A2-Level: Two 1.5 hour exams and coursework assignment.
